“What does it look like when we know what we want? The secret to knowing what you want is first knowing what you don’t want.”
-Alex Colliere
*Few get this—so many are attached to what/who doesn’t serve them, trading happiness, vitality, freedom, and authenticity for comfort, approval, and acceptance. It takes real courage to go after what you want, and even more to stand by it and honor it when you get it. True love is the ultimate de-programmer. Psychoanalysis and psychiatry is programming/social engineering disguised as self-knowledge. When it comes to love, psychoanalysis’ main neurotic lesson/principle is: to know one’s self is to be unfit for anyone else. Milton’s Paradise Lost takes a similar stance on the problem of knowledge, equating it with corruption and eventual disillusionment. It can be argued that psychoanalysis caters to the supremacy of the prison of the mind. In Paradise Lost, Satan concludes: “The mind is its own place, and in itself/Can make a Heav'n of Hell, a Hell of Heav'n.”
Love is the true liberator, it overcomes everything. It can tame a lion.
