Observe all the other performative narcissists in the Swift video, copying Swift and her fake boyfriend (while pretending not to), knowing they are being filmed and watched (while pretending that they don’t). It’s all one big theater, all the time.
In his essay, “Smartphone,” Byung-Chul Han writes that the “gaze builds primordial trust. Without the gaze, a disturbed relationship to self and others develops.”
