Broken English (2007). I taught this film for years. It’s one of the great unsung aught love stories. Guess who made it? The daughter of John Cassavetes, Zoe Cassavetes.

Julian. His courage and inner knowing. His quiet strength. Divine masculine. No bullshit. No fear. The way he carefully decides what to do on the Paris metro, with only seconds, before he grabs Nora and her bag and pulls them off the train. Ceasing the moment so that he doesn’t lose her. Lose his chance. Again.

This film feels like a lost world of possibility. And love. The real world is the connected souls of two truly human people.

“Okay, but try to explain.”
