All Wounded Masculines use this (doublethink) excuse with women (they love) at some point.

Something’s Gotta Give, 2003

(Note: I cannot believe this movie is 20 years old. I wrote about it when it came out. The essay is in my book Picture Cycle.) I didn’t much like the film then; I like it quite a bit now. I see it’s emotional power, especially given all the gender inversion/incoherence we’re dealing with now. And Erica’s crying scenes are wonderful—I so understand them, though understand is not at all the right word. I should have included her crying spree in my section on film crying in Time Tells, but I forgot about it. I love that none of the characters in the film have dogs. Now all of them would and probably more than one. It’s just a movie about self-sufficient adults living their independent adult lives.
